Friendly Ladder Rules
The Friendly Ladder is a competitive infrastructure for non-league teams to play against each other, where teams can join at any point during the season.
If you would like to have a team added to the Ladder, just email us at dupoolleague@gmail.com
Rules and Format
- The Ladder will operate on a point based system, much like the league, where each team has a point score and a team's position on the ladder is determined by the number of points they have compared to the other teams. At the start of the year, all teams registered to be in the Ladder will start with 0 points.
- New teams can join at any point in the season and will join the Ladder on 0 points.
- To gain points and progress up the Ladder, team captains arrange their own fixtures by emailing other other team captains in the Ladder. Use the Email List on the website to find the list of team captains’ emails. Matches follow the same format as a League match - rules are under the Information --> Rules on the website. Please use common sense in arranging matches.
- Because the Leagues play on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, it follows that the FL should try and fit in around that. Of course, talk to your college’s pool club about when your table is available. The DSU is a good back-up if there’s no tables available, check their availability and book them here.
- Any team failing to turn up to an arranged match without first giving the opposing captain at least 24 hours’ notice will face a 3 point deduction.
- A team can play as few or as many matches as they wish, and can play the same team more than once, up to a maximum of three times (although this can be extended with permission from the League). However, teams are rem.inded that this is supposed to be a non-competitive league, and so any gaming of the system will not be tolerated by the League.
- The team that wins a match gets 3 points added to their team's point total, and the loser gets 1 point added to theirs. Any tied matches should be decided by a tiebreaker frame, or a lag, by agreement of the captains.
- At the end of the year, the three teams who finish top of the Ladder will replace the three bottom teams in Division 2 for the forthcoming season. If there are additional spaces these will be assigned to the teams that finish 4th,5th,6th etc. This is all at the discretion of the League.
- Because there’s no limit to the number of matches a team can play, it follows that the more a team plays the greater their chance of being promoted to Div 2 becomes. This is to encourage teams to be committed in playing organised college pool.
- Non-college-affiliated teams can join the Ladder (e.g. the Welsh Society has had a team recently). However, they will not be allowed to be promoted to Div 2 as the Leagues are supposed to be an inter-college competiton
- Finally, we would like to reinforce the point that the Friendly Ladder is meant to serve as a platform into the League, so it shouldn't be taken as seriously. Having said that, please use your common sense when arranging matches, as teams will be punished if for example they try to use the rules listed above to their advantage. As ever, if there are any questions or issues, don't hesitate to get in touch by emailing us at dupoolleague@gmail.com
